Client Profile 1:  Female > Independence

At 5' 2" and 135 lbs, this 53 year old client is a business woman who has had persistent body image challenges over the last 10 years that made her unhappy.  She believed her body made her look old and sedentary so she made a decision to take action!

She was particularly unhappy with her upper body (flabby soft arms and frail looking shoulders) and her lower body (glute, hip, and thigh fat).  The final straw was the fat rolls on her back and oblique area of the stomach.

She walked regularly and participated frequently in group fitness sessions at the community center for over two years.  However, she was not making an impact on her body for time spent on exercise.  She believed her nutrition habits were reasonably good.

Goals: Lose > 20 lbs minimum, firm upper body, trim lower body (come down 3 pant sizes)

Start:  Weight (130 lbs),  Fat (40%),  Metabolic Age (45 years), no breakfast, salads for lunch and dinner, bigger meal for lunch, tried to limit eating after 7pm, brisk walks 5 days/wk, community center 2-3 times per week.  Sleep averaged 5 hours per night.

Exercise Changes: Intense exercise 3-4 times per week for 9 months with deliberate variation in workouts every session to balance upper body, core, lower body focus.  Continued 2 mile dog walks 5 days per week

Nutrition / Rest Changes:  Five to six meals per day, more protein, little to no starchy carbs after 1pm, big balanced meal at lunch, one eat out meal splurge per week.  Sleeps average of 7 hours per day.

Current Profile:

Weight (105 lbs),  Fat (23%),  Metabolic Age (18 years)

Body Tone:  Toned upper body with defined arms and shoulders, no thigh rubbing, cut waist with reduction of 3", defined legs with slightly muscular calves.

Client Profile 2:  Male  > Independence

At 5' 8" and 230 lbs, this 52 year old client is a business man who carried excess weight for many years precipitated by his travel, infrequent exercise, and eating choices while on the road.

He believed that is body image was putting him at a disadvantage with younger more fit 35 to 40 year old colleagues.  His lower back was constantly sore from sitting in cars and planes.  He had a severe snoring problem that made his wife unhappy/lose sleep.

Specifically, this client was unhappy with his neck fat, upper body (undefined chest and soft arms) and his core  (stomach, hips, and thigh fat).  He was also concerned that excess core body fat put him at a higher risk of heart attack.  He slept about 4-5 hours per night.

This client did attend group exercise programs at the local community center periodically.  He also used the community facilities virtually every Saturday to workout. However, his poor eating habits while on the road during the week often erased the benefits of weekend exercise.

Goals: Lose a minimum of 30 lbs, define upper body and core, reduce core body fat and metabolic age significantly, look better overall, change eating habits.

Start:  Weight (230 lbs),  Waist (37 in), Fat (39%),  Metabolic Age (59 years), breakfast (cereals/muffins), lunch (2 sandwiches), and dinner (big meal with meat, salad, veg, starch) almost always after 7pm, workout 1 time per week.

Exercise Changes: Engaged in intense exercise 2-3 times per week for first 12 months. Today he works out 2 times per week with deliberate variation in workouts to target upper body, core, lower body.   He does early morning / evening walks 5 days per week for 2 - 3 miles.

Nutrition Changes:  Eats 4 - 6 meals per day (smaller portions), more protein, fewer bad carbs after 1pm, big meals at lunch, attempts to eat dinner by 7pm.  Sleeps about 6+ hours per night.

Current Profile:

Weight (168 lbs),  Waist (34 in), Fat (19%),  Metabolic Age (31 years)

Body Tone:  Muscular upper body with defined arms and shoulders, core fat reduced significantly with minor roll of fat and subtly defined stomach, well defined legs, very muscular calves, signifcant reduction in facial fat around chin and neck (fit look overall).
